Instead of doing my usual Friday Flashback I thought I would do something different. With summer being only one day away it is time to reveal my top 5 list of the best summer songs. This list is sure to be controversial as there are so many songs that had to be ignored. I checked out various other summer lists on the web and here is the way I see it. Please, let me know where I am right and wrong! I know I kicked sand in the face of some monster summer songs not on my list.
5. In The Summertime by Mungo Jerry. The song hits all the right chords, except for the “have a drink, have a drive” line.
4. The Boys Of Summer by Don Henley. I had to include this great summer song.
3. Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffett. It was difficult to choose just one Buffett song as all of his songs represent the fun and the weather of summer. I went with his biggest hit that defines him.
2. Good Vibrations by The Beach Boys. Just like Buffett, it is tough to pick one Beach Boys song. An argument could be made that the entire top 5 or top 10 could be all Beach Boys songs. I went with Good Vibrations even though it was extremely difficult to leave Surfin’ USA off from this list.
1. Summer Nights by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. For me this was a lock from the first moment. It is the ultimate summer song from Grease.
