Weekend at Bernie’s

Madoff daydreaming about the ultimate scam

Here is my commentary on Bernie Madoff and his $50 billion theft that will tie up courts for years and has bankrupted many charities.  If I were previously asked to do due diligence for someone that was considering investing with him years ago the first two things I would want to see are past investment returns and some audited statements.  After looking at positive monthly returns, EVERY MONTH, for 10 years I would have dismissed this out of hand as not possible.  The market does not work this way.  I would have then looked at statements from an unknown tiny accountant in New York and would have asked why tens of billions of dollars doesn’t pay for a large accounting firm with expertise in complex investments.

While it is easy for me to play Monday morning quarterback this definitely would not have passed my most basic due diligence tests in the first 15 minutes of examining.

Check out this video.  I don’t know how Madoff could walk around without any security.  Check out the shoving.  I love the guy at the end begging for the money shot!

A Judy Garland Christmas

This song seems like it was written for today.  I can’t stop thinking of Dorothy and the Wizard though no matter what I do!  I know nothing about the movie Meet Me In St. Louis that this clip was from but was curious why the little girl was so sad.  It turns out she was just bummed about moving from St. Louis to New York.  She’ll get over it.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
Next year all our troubles will be
out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the yule-tide gay
Next year all our troubles will be
miles away

Once again as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who were dear to us
Will be near to us once more

Someday soon, we all will be together
If the Fates allow
Until then, we’ll have to muddle through somehow
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

Chilling icicle face!

I just saw this one at the KOMONews.com Seattle web site.  Check this out!

This item would be tougher to sell on Ebay I would think.

Does his mood change when warmer weather comes?

Hanging out for the holidays
