"The summer night is like a perfection of thought." – Wallace Stevens

Wrong way, Representative

I met a friend earlier today for some food at Marcy’s in Portland, near L.L. Bean’s outlet store.  When I was leaving, at about 11:30am, I was driving down Free Street and was taking a left onto Center Street.  As you can see from the map it is a one way street.

When I took the left onto Center Street I noticed a compact car coming right at me at a pretty high rate of speed.  I went into evasive action mode and had to swerve pretty severely to avoid being hit.  The clueless driver that just put me in danger had a very recognizable blue Maine State House District 120 license plate and she sat there facing the wrong way on a one way street making me go out of my way to half turn around.  As I pulled up beside her I told her she was going the wrong way on a one way street.  In a very condescending tone she told me “I know that” and was rambling how she couldn’t get through on the other end of the street, something I didn’t understand because I ended up driving through the same area with no problem.

After a quick internet search I am pretty sure the driver was Anne Rand.

One thing I am confused about is why she would still have that license plate if she is not in the House any longer.  There is a small chance that it was the newly elected House District 120 Representative Diane Marie Russell-Natera’s car, but if it was it definitely was not her doing the driving.

I should have taken a photo or better yet fired up the video on my phone and you all could have experienced what it was like to be talked down to after almost being hit head on.

At the end of the day someone was in that House District 120 car that maybe shouldn’t be behind the wheel!

Nice Curt, nice. Now aren’t you glad you met me for a little b-fast? I am curious about who the mad cap driver was also. I am concerned that a individual in the Maine State House is not aware of our driving laws. Of course being a politician, they are usually above all laws anyways. I myself was a few car lengths behind you and could not understand what the hold up was. I was behind a big old pickup truck stuffed to the gills with lawn and leaf bags, and one very angry gentleman who was happy to show his anger with a flurry of hand gestures. Actually maybe he is also a member of the Maine State House and was just flashing the State House gang sign.
